Date: 665 VT

Participants:

  • Thyra Thornwood
  • Valenwood Family

Cause: With the Age of Divergence in full swing and outside forces stirring fear and distrust among the great families, Thyra Thornwood sought to ensure her family’s sanctuary remained untouched by the growing conflicts.

Story:
The world had changed since Altharion’s Departure. Once allies, the great families now viewed each other with suspicion, as outside forces subtly manipulated events to pit them against one another. Thyra Thornwood, ever watchful, sensed the growing danger. To preserve the peace of Valenwood Grove, she called upon her family’s ancient knowledge of enchantments and cast the Thornwood Wards—powerful protective spells that surrounded the grove like a magical barrier. These wards not only prevented physical entry by enemies but also blocked scrying and other arcane spying techniques.

For many years, the Valenwood Grove remained isolated, its people trusting in the wards to keep them safe from the darkness creeping across Valora. However, the wards also mirrored the growing isolationism of the time, as families turned inward, further alienated by fear and distrust.

Outcome: The Thornwood Wards successfully protected Valenwood Grove from direct attacks during the early days of the Age of Divergence. However, their creation also symbolized the growing paranoia and isolation that marked the era. As trust between the great families continued to erode, Valenwood, like the other regions, became more disconnected from the rest of Valora.
