The Collapse from Fear (2000 BC)

Overview: In his third attempt, Altharion created civilizations that prioritized self-preservation and isolation above all else. These societies built massive defenses and hoarded resources, but their paranoia eventually led to stagnation and their eventual collapse. This event highlighted the dangers of fear-driven isolationism.

Date: 2000 BC

Participants:

  • Altharion – Creator of the civilizations

Cause: Altharion sought to create civilizations focused on survival and security, emphasizing self-reliance and defensive structures to protect against external threats.

Story: The civilizations of this era were fortified and reclusive, building immense walls and barriers to keep out perceived threats. Their societies revolved around securing their own existence, focusing inward and shunning diplomacy, exploration, or collaboration. Paranoia grew as they began to see everyone as potential enemies, even their own people.

Isolation, once a defensive measure, turned into a fatal flaw. Unable to trade or communicate with outsiders, their economies faltered, and they lacked the innovation or adaptability to overcome crises. Fear of the unknown prevented them from advancing, and they gradually declined into stagnation. With no external allies or trade to sustain them, they eventually crumbled, isolated and forgotten.

As these civilizations fell, more pockets of dark corruption were left behind, further strengthening the malevolent force that pursued Altharion.

Outcome: The civilizations that collapsed due to their own paranoia contributed to the growing corruption that followed Altharion. These failures drove him to create Valora, where he would attempt to strike the perfect balance between security, ambition, and humility.
