Overview: The Fall to Pride was Altharion’s second major failure. He created civilizations that thrived on intellectual and cultural superiority. However, their arrogance and belief in their invincibility led to their eventual collapse. This event taught Altharion that pride, like greed, was a destructive force.
Date: 2500 BC
Participants:
- Altharion – Creator of the civilizations
Cause: Altharion’s desire to build advanced societies, emphasizing knowledge, art, and cultural achievements.
Story: Altharion’s second attempt at creating civilizations focused on those that valued intellect, culture, and innovation. These societies flourished with grand cities, complex political systems, and vast cultural knowledge. However, as they grew in power and sophistication, their pride overtook them. Rulers and scholars began to believe they were untouchable, dismissing the possibility of failure. They looked down upon others, viewing themselves as superior beings.
This arrogance led to hubris. Leaders refused to adapt, believing their civilizations were perfect. When external threats arose—whether from natural disasters, internal dissent, or outside forces—they failed to respond effectively. Each society’s belief in its own infallibility led to its eventual downfall. One by one, the great cities and empires fell, unable to cope with their rigid pride and unwilling to recognize their own flaws.
As with the civilizations destroyed by greed, each fallen empire left behind pockets of dark corruption, which continued to grow as Altharion moved on to new creations.
Outcome: The collapse of these proud civilizations added further corruption to the growing darkness that followed Altharion. The lesson of unchecked pride left him wary of future creations but still determined to find a perfect balance in his next world.
